The annual Pantry Raid competition between Tyler Lee and John Tyler High School is held each year in the Fall.  For over twenty nine years, the students at each school have had a friendly competition to feed hungry East Texans.  The food and funds the students collect will benefit hungry East Texans through the East Texas Food Bank’s partner agencies.  The school that collects the most amount of food will earn bragging rights and proudly display the traveling trophy at their school for the year.

In 2019, John Tyler High School was declared the winner of the 29th Annual Pantry Raid.  Both Tyler Lee and John Tyler High Schools collected a RECORD 95,655 pounds of food combined for the community, providing over 79,700 meals to those in need.  This was the largest amount of food and funds ever collected!  For the past 29 years, Pantry Raid has collected over 1.4 million pounds of food.

“The Pantry Raid matters because our East Texas communities sorely need the energetic engagement of our young people in the fight against hunger,” said Dennis Cullinane, CEO of the East Texas Food Bank.  “The student bodies of Tyler Lee and John Tyler are our future and through Pantry Raid are making a substantial contribution towards building a better world – and we are grateful!”
