Staff Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining financial procedures and confirming financial compliance through preparation of a company’s reports and statements.

POSITION GOALS
  • Review financial statements for accuracy and legal compliance.
  • Assist in resolving accounting and financial problems and/or issues.
  • Organize and update financial records.
  • Prepare documentation for external auditors.
  • Responsible for issuance of 1099 forms at the end of the year.
  • Assist Director of Finance with grant management and compliance.
  • Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
  • Produce error-free accounting reports and present their results.
  • Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
  • Support month-end and year-end close process.
  • Perform additional duties as requested by the Chief Financial Officer and/or /Director of Finance.
  • Make daily deposits and maintain petty cash.
  • Responsible for paying bills and keeping files on billing.
  • Assist in the preparation for and execution of the annual financial audit.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • College degree in relevant field and equivalent work experience.
  • Associate degree in accounting with relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of 4 year degree.

Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough understanding of accounting, bookkeeping, and financial management information.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication.
  • Literate in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience using accounting software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate the work of others.
  • It is useful if the incumbent has a background working with governmental agencies and other nonprofits.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, dynamic, and creative professional with entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Maintain working knowledge and understanding of the office machines, procedures and computer programs used by the food bank.
  • Work closely with other staff members and departments as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Superior organization abilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance or CFO.
WORKING CONDITIONS

This position works in an office environment and requires sitting at a computer for prolonged periods of time.
