Community Engagement Advisor – Texarkana

The Community Engagement Advisor (CEA) for the Texarkana region is a self-motivated, confident, results-oriented, front-line fundraiser. The CEA coordinates and manages the qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of individual, corporate, and foundation donor partners. Using a relationship-based fundraising strategy, the CEA works with a portfolio of major and mid-level donor partners and strategically engages, cultivates, and stewards them. The CEA’s major focus is to deepen relationships with current donor partners who can invest more deeply in the mission of the ETFB where it aligns with their passion and interests. This will require a commitment to occasional non-business hours and regular travel outside the office throughout the service area.

The CEA serves as an extension and ambassador of the East Texas Food Bank (ETFB) in their designated region. They will be responsible to increase, strengthen, and diversify ETFB’s fundraising sources in the region.

This is an entrepreneurial position. To succeed, the candidate must be an internally-compelled self-starter who is willing and able to take initiative in establishing a long-term, vibrant and engaged constituency of ETFB supporters in his/her region.

This position reports to the Director of Philanthropy and Engagement (DPE) and works collaboratively with the Food Bank’s senior leadership team, program leadership, volunteer services and members of the board of directors.

  • Develop and cultivate a base of new major donor relationships
  • Plan and coordinate local donor partner events, varying in scale.
  • Facilitate meetings and introductions of high-impact supporters with ETFB’s DPE, Chief Development Officer (CDO), and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
  • Assist with the recruitment of volunteers to work with ETFB’s Texarkana Resource Center.
  • Mobilize and accompany donor partners to visit ETFB programs and locations.
  • Attend weekly virtual development team meetings, staff meetings, and conference calls.
  • Build, retain, qualify and manage a portfolio of 150+ donor partner relationships.
  • Create individual engagement strategies and gift goals for each donor partner based on their history of giving and/or the donor partner’s giving capacity.
  • Create a foundational cultivation plan for each person in the portfolio. Faithfully and in a timely manner execute that plan so individuals in the portfolio are retained and
    deepen the relationship with the ETFB.
  • Prepares and delivers customized and strategic presentations that inform and inspire support for ETFB’s values and mission.
  • Provide personal acknowledgment for all major gifts and ensure timely and appropriate thank you letters, calls and outreach.
  • Maintain a documented visit schedule and create monthly reports that accurately
    reflect portfolio activity and performance toward annual goals & KPIs for this position.
  • Identify potential planned giving prospects among portfolios and partner with the DPE/ CDO to solicit planned gifts.
  • Fulfill stewardship plans for major donor partners including tours, newsletters, hosting meetings and leveraging donor stewardship events.
  • Actively seek out opportunities to be involved in the community; build partnerships
    with organizations and associations within ETFB’s service area; act as an Ambassador for ETFB.
  • Attend local events that are relevant to building connections and engagement
  • Become a member of relevant civic and leadership groups to build connections and engagement
  • Work with the Texarkana Resource Center Branch Manager in managing and developing a local community advisory board.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Established track record of taking initiative, being a self-starter, self-directed, and self-motivated.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Other certifications directly related to fundraising may be considered in lieu of degree and at the discretion of the ETFB.
  • Experience in local community fundraising with a proven track record of success in 5+ figure gifts or equivalent local one-to-one sales and marketing experience with a high value product or service.
  • Experience in public speaking/presentations.
  • Experience working with nonprofits.
  • Proven ability to establish rapport and trust while collaborating with diverse groups of
    people and communities.

  • Able to work under pressure and meet CEA deadlines.
  • Natural and optimistic team leader who collaborates with team members.
  • Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and
    ability to quickly learn new software systems.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other donor databases preferred.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, technical, and effective time management skills.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout service area up to 50%+.

This position works in an office environment but requires up to 50% travel. This position operates within a flexible working environment.
