Hunger Action Month 2011
During Hunger Action Month, East Texans will have an opportunity to give food, money or time to help feed children, families and seniors who are struggling to provide food for their families. Starting September 1st, you can donate food at any Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods or Brookshire Brothers by purchasing extra food for our hungry neighbors.
About Hunger & Resilience Exhibit
The East Texas Food Bank is bringing East Texans the oppourtunity and to see and hear from Americans that have experienced hunger in a exhibit called About Hunger & Resilience. The portraits and several audio stories reveal courage and fragility of those who have experienced hunger.
"What we are trying to do is raise awareness and bring it down to the human element," Executive Director Dennis Cullinane said. "You can look at the photo and really listen to their story and hear their circumstances."

Brookshire Brothers Holds Food Drive
Twenty Brookshire Brothers grocery stores throughout East Texas are joining the East Texas Food Bank once again during Hunger Action Month. The stores are making pre-filled sacks of groceries available to customers to buy for $7 or $12. The contents of those bags will be donated to the East Texas Food Bank.
"These are very inexpensive ways to make customers feel like they've done their part," Emily Watts of Brookshire Brothers said. "We really tried to think of nutritious items people can stock their pantries with."
Brookshire Grocery Company Helps Kick Off Hunger Action Month in East Texas
September 1st is the start of Hunger Action Month, a national campaign to raise awareness about hunger. Brookshire Grocery Company made a significant contribution by donating an entire truckload of food to the East Texas Food Bank.
"We provided the food bank with some of the perishable items: milk, eggs, juice that they normally wouldn't get through donations as well as other nutritional items for the shelves," Sam Anderson of Brookshire Grocery Company said.
"Customers can also purchase $7 and $5 bags of groceries that they can put in a container at the store, or other items they wish to give. That food will then be donated to the East Texas Food Bank."
