Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

Nation's Largest Single-Day Food Drive

(Tyler, Texas) May 7, 2013 – Help Stamp Out Hunger in East Texas.  On Saturday, May 11th, the
National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) in East Texas will collect food for the East Texas Food
Bank.  Now in its 21st year, the annual food drive has grown from a regional to a national effort that
provides assistance to the millions of Americans struggling to put food on the table.

“Stamp Out Hunger is an easy and convenient way to help those in your community,” said Dennis
Cullinane, executive director of the East Texas Food Bank. “As one of the biggest food drives of the
year, we encourage you to leave a sack of non‐perishable food by your mailbox to help feed our
hungry neighbors.”

The Stamp Out Hunger food drive, held on the second Saturday in May, has become the nation’s
largest single‐day food drive benefitting Feeding America food banks across the United States.  In
2012, generous Americans donated 70.5 million pounds of food, which marked the ninth consecutive
year that at least 70 million pounds were collected by letter carriers.  In East Texas, nearly 78,000
pounds of food was collected by letter carriers.

“The Stamp Out Hunger food drive is important for our local communities because it helps stock food
banks and pantries for summer, a time when there’s an increased need for food assistance, especially
for children who are out of school,” said Fredric V. Rolando, NALC president. “The letter carriers are
committed to supporting the drive by picking up and delivering food donations to local Feeding
America food banks and hunger‐relief organizations in their markets.”

Nick Cannon, multi‐talented entertainer and member of the Feeding America Entertainment Council,
is the national spokesperson for the Stamp Out Hunger food drive for the third year in a row. The
drive particularly hits home for Cannon, who experienced hunger and visited food pantries as a child.

“Feeding America is grateful to all letter carriers and all sponsors who help make the Stamp Out
Hunger food drive possible,” said Bob Aiken, president and CEO of Feeding America.  “With one in six
Americans living at risk of hunger, our food banks are stretched thin and providing food assistance to
nearly six million people each week.  Food donations are crucial to our goal of a hunger‐free
America.”
